‘SYTYCD’s’ Legacy enjoys ‘American Idol,’ Ellen and even Simon

Legacy, one of the standouts from “So You Think You Can Dance’s” sixth season, is a fan of another FOX reality competition show.
Born Jonathan Perez, the b-boy makes time for “American Idol” despite his busy, dance-filled schedule.
“I’ve seen some of the audition process,” Legacy told Zap2it in a phone interview. “I enjoy that part and if I can TiVo after that I try to sit down and watch to see who is my favorite and who has potential.”
He especially supports Ellen DeGeneres, who made her debut at the judges table on Tuesday night’s (Feb. 9) Hollywood Week episode.
“I think it’s great. She brings the comedy, that sensibility,” he said. “I’ve performed for her before on her show, on her 50th birthday. I’ve been connected with performing over there for a while. When we got kicked off, we got the chance to dance for her, Mollee [Gray] and I.”
He admitted that British judge Simon Cowell brings a far different sensibility, which “is beautiful. It makes the show more interesting.”
It was news to Legacy that this would be Cowell’s final season on “Idol” before leaving for the U.S. version of “The X-Factor.”
“Is it? Oh wow. I like Simon,” said Legacy. “I mean, I think he brings something to the table. I would love to see him there longer, but if he’s gotta go, he’s gotta go. He’s got new moves to do. I’m a fan of the new moves too.”
New moves is definitely what Legacy is all about. He’s dancing constantly and was spotted at the Television Critics Association press tour in January flipping during the “Dance Your Ass Off” session. Legacy can been on the recent DVD release of “B-Girl,” at the TED tech convention in Long Beach dancing, doing a routine at the Academy Awards and in the upcoming summer three-quel, “Step Up 3-D.”
He’s also open to other forms of self-expression and takes a cue from the hopefuls he sees on “American Idol.”
