Sure, Adam Lambert, Jennifer Lopez and Whitney Houston are grabbing all the AMA headlines — but there were other good performances last night that should not be forgotten.
We’ve compiled our Top 5 most underrated performances from the 2009 American Music Awards. Let us know if you agree in the comments!
5. Daughtry
Poor Chris Daughtry. Who can keep up with perennial Idol juggarnaut Kelly Clarkson, Carrie Underwood’s sparkly granny panties and Adam Lambert’s, well, entire existence? We thought Daughtry did an excellent job on “Life After You.”
4. Rihanna
Despite looking like something out of “The Fifth Element,” Rihanna’s “Wait Your Turn” performance really shined.
3. Green Day
Are we the only people who think the verses of “21 Guns” sound like Neil Young’s “Heart of Gold?” Regardless, Green Day continues to crank out hit after hit and really nailed it at the AMAs.
2. Mary J. Blige
Mary J. Blige has been on the music scene for going on 20 years now and the First Lady of R&B has still got it going on. Her “I Am” performance was fantastic and she looked amazing.
1. Jay-Z and Alicia Keys
Alicia opening the number with “New York, New York” on the piano was just beautiful. This is definitely an excellent duet. As we said last night, we’d like to see a mash-up with this song and “New York State of Mind.”
